Our paper in collaboration with professor Gosia Swadźba-Kwaśny has been accepted for publication in ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering: Beckmann Rearrangement with Improved Atom Economy, Catalyzed by Inexpensive, Reusable, Bro̷nsted Acidic Ionic Liquid. We show that the replacement of conventional sulfuric acid/oleum with PIL allows the base neutralization step, which yields ammonium sulfate as a byproduct in the conventional Beckmann rearrangement, to be avoided. Moreover, we provide a technoeconomic analysis of the ionic liquid drying process – using a renewable energy it may not be such an issue! Read more here!
